I spent the day at a Literacy Coaching workshop on higher-level questioning and thinking. We did a lot of work and I kept thinking about how great it was and all the interesting things that could happen as classes delve deeper and deeper into a book. I will definitely do it! But after the presenter said something like, “And then you read the book again and this time your focus is…” I started to wonder how many times in a row a person can seriously read one picture book and still pay enough attention to get something out of it. Then my mind really started to wander, and before I knew it, I was thinking about doing more silly poetry in class and not getting too bogged down in the exploration of themes and main ideas. (They are 8 and 9 years old for heaven’s sake!) That led me to think of Giggle Poetry.
My Doggy Ate My Homework

He chewed it up,” I said.

My teacher shook her head. I saw this wasn’t going well.
I didn’t want to fail.
